Finally, I have attended an AIGA Cocktails and Creatives event and I am SOOOOOOO glad I did!
Cocktails and Creatives, if you didn’t know, is a small get together, at a location normally announced weeks in advance, for all members and non members that would like to attend. Here there’s is a little design talk but mostly a lot of fun, food, and drinks. But don’t worry, if you do not drink they still welcome you to attend because the atmosphere is just amazing.
This was my first time being able to make it to one of these events, as the ones in previous months fell on very important days or I simply didn’t remember about it until the day after. I showed up to BlackFinn with my best friend Jarrett and after a few wings and beers we were mingling with the rest of the creatives, joining in on various topics and meeting some pretty awesome people.
I really like events like this because they bring together all the people that you don’t see on a day-to-day basis, like students and instructors from other schools, creatives from all types of companies, and those that sit on the board. One of the most exciting parts of the night had to have been when Jarrett brought up to Stephanie Soden that he would be attending the Art Institute soon, she told him that there was actually staff present from AI and she could introduce them. After talking with them and discussing skills and the program, I brought up to Stephanie that my classmates and I were doing a podcast about the recent Morning Leak and she was so excited and told me that she definitely wanted to hear it. Not only that but after introducing me to Ben Windsor she told me that they could also link our podcast to the AIGA blog. How awesome is that! I really want to thank Stephanie for all of her help, embracing me, and just for showing me that sometimes you just have to “get in there”. The only thing I regret is not participating in the “Stocking” portion of the night. It looked to fun!
